"The malting rock-suite" explores microtonality in melodic, harmonic and timbral phrases, as well as how compositional techniques from contemporary music can create simple structural changes in folk music.

The strings of the cello and bass are retuned to a specific mictrotonal tuning. Maltstein-suiten is closely related to the pieces in the Microtonal Tuning Series.
